Cast Off - The Escapades Kick Off

My trip to the UK, Germany and Hungary kicked off yesterday morning when I arrived in Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games.

For a little background on the games and the countries involved -
The Commonwealth of Nations, usually referred to as the Commonwealth, brings together 53 independent nations in one association. All but one are former British colonies or related dependencies. Their aim is to promote peace, democracy and development. Regardless of these goals, the Commonwealth Games is all about competition. It is a somewhat mini Olympics held every four years and only accepts entrants from Commonwealth countries. Its major goal is to prepare young talent for international competition, but it also fuels rivalries between different Commonwealth Nations. This year, my significant other, Chris Binnie, is participating - pretty awesome! He is competing in the Men's Squash division for Jamaica. This trip was a huge excuse to travel and to see him play! After the games we will head to Germany, Hungary and finally London, but for now, we are settled up in Glasgow.

Enjoying a little Bowlers Pub outside of the Field Hockey Stadium

First brew for this guy - and look what happened to be on the bottom of his cup. GoBants

It was AMAZING to see a former Polar Bear WLax player on the streets of Glasgow. Abbie and I played together for three years :) and now she is a permanent resident of Aberdeen, north of Glasgow.
